Anacortes Salmon Derby Tickets
SOLD OUT
Over 1000 anglers expected for this year’s event.
ANACORTES, WA (February 10, 2010) – The Fidalgo Chapter of
the Puget Sound Anglers are pleased to announce that all tickets for the Fourth
Annual Anacortes Salmon Derby, to be held March 27th
& 28th
at the Cap Sante Boat Haven, have sold out in record time.
1,000 tickets were sold in just 10 days, an increase over the 800 tickets which
were snapped up, in just two short weeks, for the previous year’s event. “The
derby committee decided to offer an extra 200 tickets this year based on
previous demand” said derby Chairman, Jay Field. “We were really surprised by
the brisk pace of ticket sales last year, but once again, were pleasantly
surprised at how fast they flew out of our sellers’ stores” said Bill
Lang, head of the ticket sales committee. Lang went on to say, "We couldn't have
done it without the efforts of the store owners and their staff, at each of the
sales outlets."
For only $50.00, contestants will enjoy free launching and three nights moorage
along with a free Friday night fishing seminar, a Saturday night no-host social,
a free BBQ lunch on Sunday, fishing in the San Juans, and fine camaraderie.
This family friendly event, the fourth of the year for the
Northwest Salmon Derby Series, boasts $25,000 in cash prizes and thousands more
in merchandise. The grand prize is a whopping $15,000 followed by, $5,000 for 2nd,
$2,500 for 3rd,
and $2,500 for the Secret Weight fish. Special categories include a woman’s
division, youth division, and winning prizes for active military and those over
70 years of age.
The
proceeds from this derby fund scholarships to benefit young adults pursuing a
career in fisheries and related science. The club disbursed over $20,000
in scholarship money in 2009.
